Girls in a cool car on the California Incline above Pacific Coast Highway (1934)
Color by Amazing Colorizing really brings this scene into the 21st Century.
It's "Summertime, Summertime - Sum-Sum-Summertime" in Santa Monica, California. The year is 1934, and these young ladies are having the time of their lives, as we look north, up the beautiful Southern California Coast. Pacific Coast Highway lays below, with the famous Santa Monica Pier just "stage left" of our '34 California Beach Bunnies - and the legendary beaches of Malibu, Zuma, and Ventura behind them heading north, along PCH's long and winding drive along the Pacific Ocean.
Here we are more than 85 years later - and the scenery really hasn't changed much in all this time. Here's a recent photo, taken on the spot where our girls sat in their car on a Santa Monica Summer Day day, so long ago.
Santa Monica Pier as it is today. You must admit, she looks pretty fine for a pier that was first erected in 1909! Back in the '80s and '90s I was able to scoop up about $300 for two hours work, singing with my 12-string guitar. I could always gather a welcome crowd on the pier.
Well, you may be wondering why we'd be featuring a summertime photo in October. Well, Octiber is the best month to visit our Southern California beaches. The air temperature is usually in the 70s-80s, and the ocean is warmer than any other month. Best of all, this is a secret unknown by most tourists. As the local surfers still shout when they spot that perfect wave - Cowabunga!

Finally, for your listening pleasure, here's "Summertime Summertime" by The Jamies (1958), which leads us full circle to my opening lyrics quote. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrgdr3ROzTc
